Reserve your evening

The room holds just twenty-eight, so a table is worth keeping ahead of time. Reserve one of the covers for dinner or Sunday lunch, then find the door on a Lewes evening — candlelight, an open pass, and a short menu that changes with the week.

Before you come

Good to know

A few honest answers to the things people ask before booking a table at The Copper Larder.

It does. The sheet is rewritten every Tuesday around what the South Downs farms and Newhaven day boats have given us. If there's a dish you loved, it may not be there next visit — that's rather the point of cooking with the season.

Always — just tell us when you book. There's a proper vegetarian option every week, we can adjust most plates, and because we cook everything in-house we can usually work around allergies. The more notice, the better we can look after you.

Very much so, especially at Sunday lunch, where we do smaller plates at half price. The room is intimate and candlelit in the evenings, so dinner suits older children best — but do bring the whole family on a Sunday.

When there's a free table, gladly — and there's always a seat or two at the pass to watch the kitchen work. But with only twenty-eight covers we fill quickly, especially at weekends, so a booking is the surest way to a table.

The list leans firmly towards low-intervention, natural wine from growers we trust, with plenty by the glass so you can follow the food. There's good cider and a few soft options too, for anyone off the wine that evening.
